OPTIKRA is a custom-designed typeface rooted in the visual language of OCR Type and inspired by the human eye as a symbol of observation. The design reflects on the expanding role of AI and smart devices in daily life, capturing the tension between convenience and surveillance. T

“I designed OPTIKRA to look almost mechanical at first glance—but the more you stare, the more it stares back. ”

Stylized alphabet letters in black, with each letter uniquely designed with rounded and geometric shapes, arranged in five rows.

The logo features the word 'CUBED' in large, bold black letters, accented with red and white stripes underneath and orange curved lines above, on a black background.

Typography Design

This showcases the detailed design of each letter in the OPTIKRA typeface, where bold visuals emphasize the concept of surveillance. The letterforms integrate elements of OCR Type, reflecting the role of technology and AI in monitoring our every move.

Storyboard

This presents the final version of the storyboard, now brought to life through animation. To enhance the visual impact, I incorporated hand-drawn elements that add depth and texture.

Colorful abstract digital artwork with various black, white, and red geometric and typographic patterns arranged in a grid. Some patterns include text such as "HELLO WORLD," "LOOK," and "EYE YOU," with abstract shapes and stylized letters.

Idea Development

I explored multiple directions, testing various visual concepts and narrative angles before refining the final vision. Each idea helped clarify how the theme of observation and technology could take shape through type.

Showcases

The showcase highlights OPTIKRA in use across posters, motion graphics, and digital interfaces, emphasizing its sharp geometry and surveillance-inspired aesthetic.

“Every version looked different, but they all asked the same question—who’s really looking at whom?”

Reflection

Working on OPTIKRA made me realize how typography can carry emotion beyond form—it can suggest presence, awareness, even unease. The process pushed me to think conceptually, not just visually, exploring how design can comment on the systems that shape our lives. It taught me that a typeface can be more than letters—it can be a lens through which we question the world watching us.
